• An ordered macroporous superstructure decorated with nano-tentacles has been elaborately designed and synthesized. • The electrosynthesis of N,N-dimethylformamide achieves 44 % Faradaic efficiency and 325 μmol h–1 cm–2 productivity. • In situ characterization combined with DFT calculations provide a comprehensive understanding of the reaction mechanism. • Finite element analysis highlights the pronounced tip-intensified effect of the nano-tentacles in the catalyst.
