• Aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) film is vulnerable to moisture-induced corrosion than indium tin oxide (ITO) film. • AZO-incorporated SHJ solar cell exhibited a significant decrease in efficiency after damp heat (DH) test, primarily due to a substantial increase in series resistance. • MgF2 capping layer could effectively protect AZO-incorporated SHJ solar cells against moisture corrosion. • Provides essential insights into the damp-heat-induced degradation mechanism of AZO-incorporated SHJ solar cells and modules.
