• TG-FTIR-MS constrained the stage-resolved interpretation of PMSQ pyrolysis. • Conversion-dependent Ea revealed pronounced multistep kinetic behavior. • Three pseudo-components described volatilization-to-demethylation transitions. • ReaxFF-MD explored possible C1/C2 conversion and fragmentation pathways. • Si-C depletion and Si-Si/Si-H formation indicated residue restructuring.
