• Valorization of sewage sludge and swine sludge for energy recovery. • The average desulfurization percentage was 71.7 %. • The average reduction of NOx was 41.2-60.8 %. • Using CeO2/TiO2 catalyst the reduction of NOx was up to 90.4 %. • The ashes could be safely disposed of in landfills.
