• Vertically aligned corn-like TiO2 nanorods array were successfully prepared by hydrothermal methods. • It exhibited excellent gas response (3.6) and fast response recovery time (12 s/33 s) to 5 ppm H2S with UV illumination at 200 ℃. • The gas sensing mechanism is discussed from the perspective of surface reaction.
