• Waste tire powder was valorized into porous carbon adsorbents by KOH activation. • KOH activation developed micropore-dominated hierarchical pore structures. • TSAC-4-2H achieved 2.75 mmol/g CO2 uptake at 0 °C and 1.87 mmol/g at 25 °C. • CO2 adsorption was mainly physical and retained 99.1% capacity after ten cycles. • Fixed-bed breakthrough tests verified dynamic CO2 capture under CO2/N2 flow.
