• Moving inner-core scatterers produce geometry-dependent coda decorrelation. • Forward-scattered codas are most sensitive to transverse heterogeneity shifts. • Polar paths better detect inner-core rotation than equatorial paths. • YKA and ILAR observations bracket modeled forward-scattering end members. • Decorrelation implies effective heterogeneity scales of tens of kilometers.
