• A thermoelastic wave model in a monoclinic medium using dual phase lag theory is developed. • The effects of phase lags, initial stress, and gravity on wave behavior are analyzed. • The transition between diffusive and wave-like thermal responses is also presented. • The existence, uniqueness, and stability of the solutions are established.
