One of the most significant concerns in modeling room acoustics is accurately characterizing how sound waves interact with obstacles within the space. To address this challenge, several numerical methods, such as Finite Element Method (FEM), Boundary Element Method (BEM), and Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD), have been utilized. However, accurately modeling boundary conditions remains a difficult mathematical and geometrical task. The Digital Waveguide Mesh, derived from FDTD methods, offers a highly efficient and straightforward approach to modeling physical systems. This study presents a comprehensive implementation of an N-dimensional Digital Waveguide Mesh, incorporating a novel formulation based on the local impedance properties of scattering joints to accurately characterize sound phenomena, including reflection, diffraction, and transmission through obstacles. The proposed models were validated for a two-dimensional room acoustics application, and the results obtained in the time and frequency domains exhibit a strong correlation with human perception, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach.
