Aiming to achieve higher direction of arrival (DOA) estimation accuracy and reduce the use of physical arrays, designing a coprime array structure with a high degree of freedom (DOF) is crucial. This paper proposes an interpolated coprime array (ICA) structure, which can improve the DOF through difference and difference-sum co-arrays. Theoretically derived continuous DOF values for this array structure show that virtual arrays can be fully utilized to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ICA is better than the classical coprime array structure, and the mutual coupling effect outperforms the nested array structure in the case of difference and difference-sum co-arrays, which thoroughly verifies the effectiveness.
