• •A novel Li+-doped ZnGa2O4:Cr3+ persistent luminescence nanoparticles was prepared. • •A dual-probe system for trace-level polystyrene nanoplastics detection was developed. • •The design integrates autofluorescence-free detection and high specificity. • •The linear range was from 50 to 800 pg mL−1 (LOD: 8.11 pg mL −1).
