• Lichtheimia ramosa EC-2 degraded ethyl carbamate by 42.29% within 7 days. • Strain EC-2 tolerated high ethyl carbamate levels and up to 15% (v/v) ethanol. • Multi-omics suggested a shift of carbon flux toward acetyl-CoA-related metabolism during EC utilization. • EC-2 altered community functions related to carbon/nitrogen metabolism and reduced arginine-related precursor pathways. • A novel amidase (TR3551) hydrolyzed EC and remained active under elevated temperature and ethanol.
