• Silver nanoparticles added strong antimicrobial properties to the films. • BC-pullulan films showed strong control of major foodborne bacteria. • Silver nanoparticle films reduced E. coli, Listeria, and Staph growth. • Composite films remained biodegradable while improving food safety. • Pullulan and cellulose strengthened film structure for safer food packaging.
