• Barrier-enhanced polysaccharide coatings were applied to blueberries. • Coating properties were evaluated as a function of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) type. • Coatings effectively reduced weight loss and enhanced fruit firmness. • Higher CNF aspect ratio resulted in improved blueberry preservation.
