• TP@QAC-PP achieved 39.6% encapsulation efficiency for tea polyphenols. • The retention of TP against UV irradiation improved from 43.0% to 58.9% after encapsulated by QAC-PP. • The QAC-PP nanocarrier enhanced TP retention throughout in vitro digestion, showing a 47.1% higher final retention compared to free TP.
