• DBD-CP could effectively inactivate A. flavus spores by the Weibull + Tail model. • DBD-CP could destroy cell wall and membrane integrity. • DBD-CP disturbed intracellular redox homeostasis, destructing biomacromolecule proteins in the cells. • The proteomic analysis revealed the stress response of A. flavus spores to DBD-CP.
