Abstract

Image compression and encryption have long constituted a significant research focus within the domain of digital security. To remedy the deficiencies of existing schemes in terms of compression ratio and cryptographic security, a lossless image compression and encryption algorithm based on a multi-scroll chaotic system and optimized quadtree coding is proposed. First, an optimization strategy for quadtree coding is devised to fully exploit the potential of hierarchical quadtree compression by reducing the length of marker overhead, thereby achieving a higher image compression ratio. Second, a four-dimensional multi-scroll chaotic system is constructed, and the pseudo-random sequences it generates are combined with a two-dimensional Fisher-Yates shuffling algorithm, thereby effectively enhancing image confusion. Experimental results demonstrate that, relative to state-of-the-art schemes, the proposed lossless image compression algorithm attains a higher compression ratio and stronger resistance to cryptanalytic attacks, thus exhibiting broader application prospects in efficient and secure image storage and transmission.
