• L-arg/pcn was constructed as a novel biocomposite for antimicrobial applications. • Antimicrobial mechanisms were summarized as the destruction of membrane integrity. • A remarkable ability to inhibit biofilm formation and destruct mature biofilms. • Potential application as food surface antimicrobial material was confirmed by antibacterial/antibiofilm activity.
