• High prevalence of Campylobacter, Salmonella and L. monocytogenes in retail raw meat. • Poultry showed highest Campylobacter and Salmonella contamination rates. • Distinct virulence gene profiles were observed among major foodborne pathogens. • Campylobacter jejuni harbored more virulence genes than Campylobacter coli. • cgMLST revealed genetic links suggesting cross-contamination at retail level.
