在推动第二语言（L2）语音教学与学习领域发展的过程中，我们借鉴了其他对语言学习其他方面教学进步具有指导作用的研究领域。诸如语料库语言学、语用学、二语习得（SLA）、心理语言学、技术以及评估等学科，为应用语言学带来了重要变革并塑造了其发展，它们在L2语音教学与学习领域也产生了显著影响。事实上，当前人工智能（AI）和自动语音识别（ASR）开发的流行尤其促进了这一合作运动，因为它们为L2语音的应用与实践提供了广泛的机会。
